NOAA: Hurricane Epsilon Track, Spaghetti Models

MIAMI, Florida – NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, issued Public Advisory at 5 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, October 23, 2020, due to the presence of Hurricane Epsilon which is the earliest 26th named storm in the recorded history of the Atlantic Hurricane Basin.

Hurricane Epsilon Projected Path

Hurricane Epsilon is located 195 miles east-northeast of Bermuda and is moving to the north at 7 mph (11 km/h).

NHC forecasters say that a general northward motion is expected through early Saturday, with a faster motion toward the northeast later that day.

On the official NHC forecast track, the center of Epsilon will continue to move away from Bermuda.

Hurricane Epsilon Computer Models

Spaghetti models are in good agreement that Hurricane Epsilon will slowly move in a northerly direction then turn to the northeast.

The new NHC official track forecast is very similar to the previous advisory track and lies close to the middle of the tightly packed simple- and corrected-consensus models.

Hurricane Epsilon Category Strength

Hurricane Epsilon has maximum sustained winds of 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts.

Epsilon is a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

Some fluctuations in strength are expected for the next day or two before gradual weakening begins on Saturday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center of the tropical cyclone and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 255 miles (405 km).
